Project Overview
ODS was responsible for the design and delivery of a modular electrical building, along with its supporting structural framework. The unit was mounted on a steel base to facilitate efficient cable entry and management for the adjacent electrical compound. The project aimed to complete the modular unit offsite at our OSM manufacturing facility, ensuring a streamlined and high-quality construction process.
The design incorporated external & internal cladding to meet a 60-minute fire rating. In addition to fire protection, the unit was designed to comply with thermal insulation standards for energy efficiency and temperature regulation. Underfloor cable management and raised floor access were integrated into both the switchgear and control room areas, ensuring smooth operations and compliance with safety requirements.
Our Approach
From the outset, ODS took a proactive role in the project, engaging with the client during the early design phase to discuss technical requirements and produce initial documentation before the tendering process began. This collaborative approach demonstrates ODS’s ability to manage projects from concept through to final installation.
Once the project was awarded, our structural design team meticulously engineered the building’s framework and provided detailed technical reports for client approval. With the foundation set, we moved to comprehensive mechanical and architectural design, utilising BIM technology to ensure seamless integration with the federated site model. Throughout the process, we adhered to all relevant building regulations and BCAR standards, maintaining the highest industry standards from start to finish.
Fabrication and Fit-Out
At our Dundrum facility, our certified welders constructed the modular unit and its supporting steel framework with precision. To ensure the highest quality, our Quality Team conducted rigorous non-destructive testing (NDT), including MPI weld inspections and thorough checks during the painting process to guarantee durability and adherence to industry standards.
Once the structural framework was complete, the module was transferred to our modular fitout facility. Here, our cladding team and electrical fit-out crew carried out their work in line with the approved design and building standards. The cladding team installed external cladding with pre-formed corners and internal insulated panels, achieving a clean, flat finish suitable for electrical equipment installation. Our electrical team then installed all free-issued equipment supplied by the customer. Upon completing our scope of work, the client proceeded with commissioning and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).
