Sustainability

ODS is continuously seeking methods to reduce the embodied carbon within its entire product range. As an ISO 14001 certified company, one of our core goals and principles is to reduce carbon emissions at every opportunity.

Our in-house structural engineers prioritise the use of green steel, modifying design schematics to ensure that green steel is specified whenever possible. Green steel is produced in an Electric Arc Furnace using high levels of scrap and 100% renewable energy.

The CO2 footprint for green steel is approximately 300 kg of CO2 per 1000 kg of finished steel produced. In comparison, the traditional Basic Oxygen Steelmaking method results in a CO2 footprint of around 2500 kg per 1000 kg of finished steel.

By employing innovative design solutions and specifying green steel for our modular units, the ODS design team has achieved a remarkable reduction in the CO2 footprint of a typical modular switchgear unit by an impressive 10 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
