Planner – Structural Steel & Modular

Location:

Tipperary, Ireland (projects across Ireland & UK)

Reporting to:

Industrial Division Manager

Contract Type:

Full-time, Permanent

Job Summary:

Position Overview

The Planner develops and manages project schedules across structural steel and modular projects from tender through delivery—ensuring realistic programmes, clear look-aheads and on-time execution. Working closely with Project Management, Engineering/Detailing, Production (workshop), Procurement and Site teams, the role coordinates fabrication sequencing, identifies risks, and provides data-driven reporting (dashboards, S-curves, progress curves) to keep projects on track. This is an Ireland-based position with occasional site and supplier visits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tender & baseline planning: Develop tender programmes and resourcing assumptions; convert to contract baselines with WBS, calendars and coding structures.
  • Programme management: Maintain detailed Level 3/4 schedules across design/detailing, procurement/long-leads, fabrication and logistics; manage critical path and float.
  • Look-ahead planning: Issue 2–6 week look-aheads aligned to fabrication slots, delivery sequences and site constraints; coordinate with workshop and site teams.
  • Resource & productivity: Load key resources (labour, craneage, plant) where appropriate; monitor productivity and adjust forecasts.
  • Fabrication & erection sequencing: Coordinate steel release, lotting and delivery; plan erection order, temporary works, access and craneage with the site team.
  • Progress measurement: Track physical progress (tonnage/piece counts), Earned Value and key milestones; maintain progress curves and dashboards.
  • Change & delay analysis: Assess impact of variations and design changes; perform what-if scenarios, mitigation and recovery plans; support EOT claims with programme evidence.
  • Procurement & long leads: Integrate procurement schedules (RFQ/PO/ETA) and supplier lead times; flag risks and expedite as needed.
  • Interfaces & BIM: Coordinate with detailers (Tekla) and use model outputs where useful for 4D visualisation/coordination (e.g., Navisworks).
  • Reporting & governance: Issue weekly/monthly reports (milestone status, look-ahead, risks, S-curves); present planning updates at progress meetings; uphold internal controls.
  • Continuous improvement: Standardise planning templates, codes and reports; capture lessons learned to improve predictability across projects.

Required Skills and Experience (Required):

  • Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 4+ years’ planning experience in structural steel, industrial/commercial construction, or modular/offsite projects.
  • Strong scheduling capability with Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6; confident building L3/L4 construction programmes.
  • Able to read GA/detail/connection drawings and BoMs; understands fabrication and site erection workflows.
  • Good grasp of EN 1090-driven deliverables and documentation sequencing; quality- and safety-aware planning approach.
  • Advanced Excel skills; comfortable producing dashboards/curves and presenting to stakeholders.
  • Clear communicator and collaborator; able to align multiple functions around the plan and drive actions to recover slippage.
  • Right to work in Ireland; full, clean driving licence; willingness to visit sites and suppliers.

Desirable

  • Primavera P6 certification and/or experience with Asta Powerproject.
  • Experience with Tekla/IFC models and Navisworks for 4D/sequence visualisation.
  • Exposure to Earned Value Management (EVM) and forensic delay analysis.
  • Familiarity with crane studies, lift planning inputs and temporary works interfaces.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits.
  • Opportunity to plan and deliver landmark industrial and commercial steel/modular projects.
  • Supportive, growth-focused environment with modern digital tools and processes.
  • Professional development and career progression.
