ODS Graduate Development Programme

Designed to support and accelerate the development of recent engineering graduates as they transition into the professional world of structural steel and modular construction.

This two-year programme places graduates at the heart of the Design & Engineering team, with a structured pathway combining on-the-job learning, formal training, and cross-functional rotations to enhance technical knowledge and commercial understanding.

Graduates will gain exposure to:

  • Structural steel design and detailing
  • Modular manufacturing workflows
  • Project planning and scheduling
  • Estimating and tender support
  • Document Control
  • Site-based installation and quality assurance processes

Learning will primarily occur through real project work, guided by experienced engineers, team leads, and department managers. Graduates are expected to be proactive in their development, using this manual as a tool to track progress, set goals, and identify areas for improvement.

Formal training may include:

  • Health & Safety (including site inductions and Safe Pass)
  • Steel fabrication processes and standards
  • Tekla Structures / Revit / AutoCAD training
  • Quality control and inspection procedures
  • Introduction to modular construction principles

Rotations may include time with the design teams, fabrication teams, project delivery teams on live construction sites, and estimating or planning departments to gain broader insight into the lifecycle of ODS projects.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Graduates are encouraged to maintain a CPD log as part of their commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth. This is aligned with Engineers Ireland requirements and supports career progression within ODS and the wider industry.

Graduates are responsible for:

  • Maintaining and updating their learning log
  • Scheduling regular reviews with their manager
  • Identifying areas for self-directed learning

Assessment & Final Presentation

Throughout the programme, tasks and milestones will be reviewed by a designated assessor. At every step feedback is provided to help graduates close gaps and reinforce learning.

At the conclusion of the two-year programme, graduates will deliver a final presentation to ODS senior leadership, summarising their development journey under the following headings:

Successful graduates may be offered a permanent position with ODS and will be well-positioned for future opportunities across design, project management, and site operations.
